Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?" But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. (Mark 16:2-4)
Their intention was simple- they just wanted to anoint Jesus' dead body with spices. But they faced a problem- the stone placed at the entrance of the tomb. The Lord had a surprise for them though- the huge stone had been rolled away. And now more surprises....things that made them flee from the tomb. Mark, the gospel writer portrays the scene very vividly.....As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'" Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.(Mark 16:5-8)
The Lord can surprise you and me with his ways. Nothing to harm us, just to remind us that he is Almighty God and that he is indeed the resurrection and the life.
Also let us remind ourselves of this promise of his, in case we have not thought about it for sometime now- He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. (John 11:25, 26)
