Shining like stars in the darkness

Amy Carmichael once walked through a village in southern India, her heart heavy after rescuing another young girl from temple slavery. The cruelty these children endured burdened her deeply. That night, she sat beneath the stars, feeling small and overwhelmed.
As she looked up, the words of Psalm 8 came to her:
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers… what is man that You are mindful of him?"
Amy whispered, “Lord, who am I to fight such darkness?”

But as the stars sparkled above, she remembered the next verses — God had crowned humanity with glory and honor, giving them purpose. Amy realized: though she was just one woman, God had entrusted her with a task. She wasn’t alone.
Renewed, she returned to her work with fierce compassion, building the Dohnavur Fellowship — a safe haven for hundreds of children. Her small acts, multiplied by God, changed lives.

Even when we feel insignificant, like Amy, we must remember: in God’s hands, we can shine like stars in the darkness.
