Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. (Romans 16:19, 20)
The great blessing for being wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil is that, we can then be victorious in our battles against our adversary, Satan.
The Apostle Paul, here, was warning Christians in Rome to watch out for them who were causing divisions. He warned them in this manner..........I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. (Romans 16:17, 18)
To the believers in Philippi, the apostle wrote,
For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. (Philippians 3:18, 19)
Involving ourselves with such people will hinder our spiritual growth and we can be waylaid by them if we are not extremely careful.
The Bible exhorts us to......
Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21, 22)
If we are wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil......the God of peace, will sanctify us through and through and our whole spirit, soul and body will thus be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
