Great Missionary Stories- 1- Dr. Johnson Cherian

After having taken up the running of a hospital with an average of fifty inpatients in China, Hudson Taylor, the British missionary found himself in a tight spot with finances dwindling fast. The patients were treated free of charge and so were food and medicines given. The hospital cook informed him one day that the last bag of rice was being used and there were large expenses to be met urgently. The missionary cried out to God fervently for finances; so did his prayer team. His faith assured his mind that God would certainly provide. In 19th century China there were no fast means of funds transfer and ships travelling from London to China took 4-5 months to reach it's destination.

Just before the last bag of rice was over, he received a letter from a Mr. Berger from England, who wrote to him about his father's demise and that his father had left him a good inheritance which he wanted to share for the extension of God's kingdom. There was a cheque for 50 pounds with the letter. 50 pounds in the 19th century was a huge sum. There was great rejoicing that day and many praises offered in worship to God Almighty who had proven himself faithful to his servant's needs. The letter was sent 5 months back from England and arrived at the precise time to meet Hudson Taylor's needs.
Afterthought- God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9). He will meet your needs when you pray with faith. And he may have sent the answer to the prayer that you are praying these days, 5 or 6 months ago. Stay strong.
