START YOUR DAY RIGHT-08-05-2016

Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long. (Psalm 25:4-5)

At every stage of our life, we need guidance and as Christians, the Bible is our guide and it shows us the path of how to live a good Christian life and how to live a strong Christian life. Here in Psalm 25, we see David praying to the Lord for guidance. He prays, “Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. As a shepherd boy, he might not have needed a lot of guidance from God, but as the king of Israel, ruling over a nation and having thousands and thousands of subjects under him, he would definitely have needed guidance from God. That’s why he earnestly prays to God for guidance and each one of us needs guidance of how to live our Christian lives. The wonderful thing about being a child of God is that God has given us his Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth. Jesus said, “When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.”

Sometimes we can be as Saul of Tarsus who was very zealous about the law and he thought that everything that he was doing was correct. He was persecuting Christians, he was putting them into prisons, and he was also siding with the people who were killing Christians. Later on when he writes his letters, he says that he was doing all these with a clear conscience. Of course, sometimes we can do many things thinking that we are doing the right thing, but unless we know what God’s Word requires from our lives, we may be doing things like Saul. And God had to deal with Saul and he had to break his pride and all that he was living for and show him the right path. Saul had an encounter with Jesus Christ and Jesus told him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It’s hard to kick against the goads"

Saul was a transformed man because he had an encounter with Jesus Christ. He gave away all his old ways and he started preaching Christ and everyone was surprised. Here was someone who was persecuting the church of God and suddenly there was a great change. He was now preaching Christ and telling people that Jesus is the only way to eternal life.

In Psalm 25, David again sings,
Good and upright is Yahweh, therefore he will instruct sinners in the way. He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way. (Psalm 25:8, 9)
We all need to pray to the Lord for guidance from his Holy Spirit. As we meditate on the Word of God each day, the Holy Spirit will guide us through the Word of God in doing the right things; things that are pleasing to God and walking in his ways.

As a Christian, we must have a teachable heart. Sometimes we may think that we know everything but it may be just worldly wisdom that is guiding our lives. If we pray to the Lord, the Lord will guide us with his Holy Spirit and grant us heavenly wisdom and we will start seeing things in a new light. So let us pray for guidance; let us pray for God to lead us by his Holy Spirit each day and this promise from Psalm 25 will come true in our lives too. He will guide us in what is right and teach us his way because all the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful to those who seek him. God will instruct you and me by his Holy Spirit through the Word of God so that we can live strong Christian lives and lives pleasing to God Almighty.
